NCFMP AND THE BA IN PASTORAL MINISTRY

The North Carolina Field Minister Program (NCFMP) offers the Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Ministry with a secondary emphasis on counseling. This degree is the same degree offered at the main campus in Wake Forest, NC. The College at Southeastern began offering this degree in August 2017 at the newly established Nash County Extension Center (NCEC).

ABOUT THIS PROGRAM

In order to facilitate this program, Southeastern partners with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NCDPS), NCI, and Game Plan for Life (GPL). Game Plan for Life is the non-profit organization started and funded in part by Joe Gibbs, owner of Joe Gibbs Racing in Huntersville, NC.

We admit approximately 30 students into each yearly cohort, giving the NCFMP program approximately 120 students at full, four-year capacity. The program is designed to be on-going from year-to-year and will continue to admit 30 new students each year. Graduates of this program will be designated as “NCDPS Field Ministers” and appointed to field ministry positions within the prison system across the state of North Carolina.

The NCFMP is designed as a pastoral and counseling training program for incarcerated people that have an extensive amount of time remaining on their sentence (12 years or more until release). The purpose of this program is to equip field ministers to serve in the North Carolina prison system within their own faith tradition. While the program is grounded in a Christian worldview, admission is open to people of all faiths.

Field Ministers will be equipped in the following ways:

  1. Students will cultivate a heart of service.
  2. Students will be able to plan and design various services according to their area of interest (counseling, tutoring, community service, faith services, hospitality services, etc.).
  3. Students will be equipped across the Southeastern Core Competencies: spiritual formation, bible exposition, theological integration, ministry preparation, and critical thinking.
  4. Students will formulate a philosophy of pastoral ministry and counseling.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Prison Programs provides resources for training incarcerated students by delivering a rigorous, liberal arts education rooted in a Judeo-Christian worldview. As students study, expand their knowledge, and are prepared for service it can increase the long-term impact on both individual lives and the system of North Carolina. When you give, you are equipping people to lead and serve in whatever they do, wherever they are
