Tracy J. McKenzie

Professor of Old Testament and Hebrew

Biography

Tracy J. McKenzie serves as Professor of Hebrew and Old Testament where he has taught since 2005. Tracy’s research concerns how the relationships of texts within the Old Testament itself contribute to an understanding of their composition and meaning. This interest follows the trajectory set by his dissertation at SEBTS, Idolatry in the Pentateuch as well his dissertation from the University of Göttingen now published as History as Harlotry in the Book of Ezekiel concerning textual growth within Ezekiel 16. He has published other articles, essays, and reviews.

In 2014, Tracy and his wife, Beth, started a specialty coffee roasting company where they attempted to develop a theology of work and vocation. As much as they enjoyed coffee and the relationships it afforded, Tracy’s heart for teaching students the Old Testament required full-time focus. They sold the coffee business in 2017. Tracy and Beth have four sons.
